The Plaza is proud to present its first eagerly awaited musical coffee morning this Easter Saturday 4th April from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm.
The Plaza is proud to present its first eagerly awaited musical coffee morning of 2026, this Easter Saturday, the 4th April, from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm.
The coffee morning will feature the Plaza’s famous Mighty Compton Cinema organ playing a wide and varied selection of musical treats.
And audiences will be wowed by a fine ‘Easter Parade’ of organists who are generously giving their time to play the Plaza’s rare and magnificent organ to raise funds for the continued restoration both of the organ and the beautiful Plaza itself.
The line up includes Richard Morgan, a great Plaza coffee morning favourite who is again specially making the journey from Rugeley in Staffordshire to play the Compton.
Michael Holmes is not only a stalwart member of the Plaza’s resident team of organists but also one of the most outstanding stylists of the cinema organ’s classic sound.
We also welcome Andrew Moody from Warrington who is well known for presenting the monthly fundraising organ concerts and coffee mornings at St Peter’s church in Stockport for more than 15 years.
Charles Brown was the last resident organist of Stockport’s much loved Davenport Theatre and also resident dance organist at Stockport Town Hall. He is also one of the Plaza’s resident organists and in charge of the technical team which maintains the 94 year old Compton in playing condition.
In 2025 the team took on the challenge of replacing the original main cable linking the console with the organ pipes and controls in the organ chambers high above the stage, while keeping all of the original 1932 equipment in use so as not to compromise the original heritage of this unique organ.
The cable has to be flexible to allow the organ console to rise up and down in legendary cinema fashion, and it is believed that a replacement job of this magnitude had never before been attempted in a UK cinema.
This is the Plaza organ’s first coffee morning since this major feat has been accomplished by our dedicated team of technicians.
Everyone is welcome at the coffee morning which is free to attend. Tea, coffee and light refreshments are available and a range of Plaza souvenirs, raffle and merchandise are available to purchase to support this Fundraising event. You can stay as long as you wish and of course, enjoy some great music to start the Easter weekend!
