Lights…Camera…and almost action!

In 1932 when The Plaza Super Cinema and Variety Theatre was opened in all her glory, she not only had the iconic green and red neon resplendently gleaming on her faience tiled facade but above the main entrance was Marquee Chaser lighting around the perimeter of the canopy creating another distinctive nod towards the glamour and majesty of the Live Stage and Silver Screen presentations that were presented to the audiences who flocked to their new venue.

Over the decades the neon, the chaser lighting and even the canopy were removed but in 2009 when The Stockport Plaza Trust undertook the award winning restoration of our venue that is still celebrated to this day the lighting was restored.

After running for a few years the chaser lighting on the canopy needed to be upgraded so following an extended period of investigation, our magnificent technical team were able to find a system that would work using the latest technology inorder to create a replacement that would still have the appearance of our 1932 installation, with new brackets and electronic fittings enabling us to create new and distinctive lighting to once again grace the front of The Plaza.

Works are almost complete on the restoration of the Marquee Chaser Lights and will be once again a distinctive feature here at The Plaza so we would like to extend a huge well done and Huzzah to all of our amazing team who have created and are now installing these light fittings with the intention of full illumination within the next week.
