New restoration House Tabs rise for the first time
The fifth incarnation since The Plaza first opened her doors in 1932 of our sumptous House Tableau Curtains (House Tabs) which have been expertly recreated by J&C Joels who are Theatrical Curtain and Drapes specialists based in Sowerby Bridge raised for the first time today during installation.
The original House Tabs that were in situe in 1932 were a shimmering delight with luxurious gold drapes bedecked with colourful Hollyhocks, a Skep filled with Honeybees heading off to work industriously in their flowering garden whilst above them beautiful butterflies soared into a sky that featured silver clouds ebbing past.
In 2009 with the technology available at the time a wonderful set of House Tabs were created however with the funds available to ourselves and J&C Joel having new technology that could recreate a more exacting replica of the original curtains we finally had the opportunity of restoring such an important part of The Plaza restoration with the creation and installation of the new curtains.
Nigel Anderton our Chairman along with General Manager Ted Doan and Technical Manager Rosie Holdaway have worked closely with J&C Joel over the last few years studying the minutest details of original glass plate images from our opening day to ensure that every flower and every blade of grass is in situe as per the original curtains along with studying the shading of flowers, butterflies and bees to recreate what is believed to be as close a match as possible to our original House Tabs.
Congratulations to everyone involved with the recreation and installation of our beautiful new House Tabs as they raise to herald the next era of Theatrical and Cinematic presentation here at The Plaza.
